Ethics in the media sector

Ethics
also known as moral philosophy, they are concepts of right and wrong conduct. Etchics are different from person to person what i would find wrong others will say thats its fine, I will be talking about various scandals which involve ethics, such as.

Leveson Inquiry
The levson inquiry was led by  Lord Justice Leveson. The leveson Inquiry looks into newspaper companys hacking celebirtys phones, There is one really serious case that would be the murdered schoolgirl Milly Dowler. They hacked Milly Dowlers phone listening to voice mails and deleteing them giving her parents hope,


Russel Brand and Johnaton Ross scanadal
There was a scandal involing Russel Brand Johnaton Ross, This scandal happended while on air on the BBC radio, In the show Russel Brand and Johnaton Ross phoned up faulty towers star Andrew Sachs They phoned his house phone trying to get an interview with him but sadly he wasnt available, They then started to leave prank call messages on his answering machine, After leaving a few messages on his answering machine Johnaton Ross blurted out that Russel Brand had sex with his daugther, After he said this he then repeatedly phoned him saying that they where sorry and being all around idiots.

What is privacy law?
The earliest definition of privacy in England  law was given by Judge  Cooley who defined privacy as "the right to be left alone". In 1972 the Younger Committee, an inquiry into privacy stated that the term could not be defined satisfactory once again in the year 1990 the Calcutt Committee concluded that. "nowhere have we found a wholly satisfactory statutory definition of privacy.

Libel law

What is Libel Law?

Libel law is a law which stops new papers righting un-true claims which could hurt someones reputation, Such examples are "Funding Evil"
Funding evil In 2003, Rachel Ehrenfeld published her book Funding Evil, which explained how terrorist groups receive funding. Khalid bin Mahfouz was accused of funding terrorist groups in the book.

Sources of income for companies in the media sector
There is wide variety of cash sources for a company in the media sector, These include


¡Downloads
Downloads is a an up and coming concept which is having big success and is the destroying the rental marker many of these companies include Netflix and flim4

¡Advertisers
Advertisers is where companies pay television channels to play there adverts in-between shows


¡Sponsorship
Sponsorship is where a company will sponsor a show giving them the needed funds to keep filming and for them to get ads or products in the show like product placement


¡Product placement
Product placement is where a product is put in the show for a certain price, Like a coffee making machine

¡BBC Licence fee
BBC Licence fee is how BBC primarily gets it money, a BBC licence free is a yearly cost of £145+ for a full colour tv licence allowing the house holder to watch all of the BBC tevlesions services The BBC used its income from the licence fee to pay for its TV, radio and online services,

¡Cinema box office
Cinema box office is where film companies get there money from, The money is from people who are going to see there films


¡Franchises, formats
Franchises and Formats are a way of well know tv formats to other countries such one format is Top Gear which now has television shows all over the world

¡CD and DVD sales
CD and DVD sales are a way for companies to make money after a certain show has stopped airing on television


¡DVD rental
DVD rental is in a steep decline with Downloads being primarily number one


¡Television subscriptions
Television subscriptions is where Television companies give you certain channels for a certain amount of money Per month or year, Examples of this would be Sky

¡Merchandise
Merchandise is a great source of income if the show is well liked and well received one of these would be Pokemon



¡Premium telephone lines
Premium telephone lines is a really shady and has come under heavy flak for not evening counting peoples votes

What are legel constraints? legal contraints a variety of limitations that one needs to think about when creating a media product, I will be dissucing each one of the legle constraints which effect the media industry and even me as a student. The first legal constraint we will be looking at is the copyright law
 
 
Copyright Law
Copyright is a legal constraint which gives artists excuslive rights to there work Generally, it is "the right to copy", but also gives the copyright holder the right to be credited for the work, to determine who may adapt the work to other forms, who may perform the work, who may financially benefit from it.
 
Goverment over the years have tried to pass bills which try to stop piracy the U.S govermant have tried to pass a variety of acts to stop piracy all together, acts such as (SOPA) which is called stop online piracy act, SOPA will intend to stop google and other online search engines to not be able to find websitse that the US goverment deems to be illegal or which will infringe on copyright law
